LPUMC Children & Family
“Teach God’s Commandments to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up…so that your days and the days of your children may be many.”
– Deuteronomy 11:19-21

Children are welcome to join us in worship at any time. On the third Sunday of the month we have a special time during worship for a children’s message.  Once a month, children serve in worship by reading Scripture. Additional service opportunities for children, including a Children’s Sabbath, occur intermittently throughout the year.
Sunday School

On Sunday mornings at 10:30 am, throughout the school year, Sunday School is available for all children and youth, Pre-K through 12th Grade.

On Sunday mornings, during both the 9:00 and 10:30 morning worship service Nursery Care is available for children infant to age 4. Additionally, Nursery Care is available for meetings and special events throughout the week, when requested at least 48 hours in advance.  Whenever the nursery is open, it is staffed by at least two Safe Sanctuary trained youth or adults. For information about the nursery or to serve in this important ministry, contact Bobbi Christensen, Nursery Coordinator.

Mission Opportunities

Throughout the year Longs Peak UMC provides a number of mission opportunities for children and their families to participate in.  Our primary ongoing mission is Project Cheerios in support of Colorado Friendship. We repackage unsweetened cereal into individual servings, as part of a weekend food backpack program for hungry kids in Boulder County. Our target is 1,000- 1,500 per month. Families are also encouraged to become Soup Angels, providing a hot meal for 5 for HOPE (homeless outreach) in Longmont.

Wednesday Night Family Devotions

On Wednesday evenings during Advent(December) and Lent(Spring), Longs Peak UMC offers a family time to study and pray together to prepare for Christmas and Easter.

Children and Family Ministry Council

These committed volunteers answered a call to serve the children and families of our congregation and community so that all may know and experience the love and grace of God through Jesus Christ. The focus of the council (CFMC) is to provide the children a place to nurture their faith and love of God by creating opportunities that connect, encourage, support, nurture and educate children and their families. The council meets on the 1st Sunday of the month, from 11:45 am – 1:00 pm.

Summer Music Drama Camp

Longs Peak UMC offers a Summer Music and Drama Camp annually in early June. This is open to children who have completed 1st grade through those who have completed 8th grade. It is a week-long camp that culminates with an evening presentation of the drama at the end of the week.

Summer Vacation Bible School

Longs Peak UMC offers a Summer Vacation Bible School.  This is open to children Pre-K through 5th Grade, with Middle School and High School Youth as helpers. It is a week-long camp filled with Bible stories, games, music, and mission.  At the end of the week the children perform some of the songs for their parents at an evening presentation.

Special Events

Throughout the year the Longs Peak UMC Children and Family Ministry Council plans a number of activities geared at bringing children and families together to participate in fellowship events both at the church and in the community. Examples include Community Easter egg hunt, Trunk-or-Treat, and Lip Sync Battle for Buckhorn. In 2016, our church raised over $1,500 in donations through the Lip Sync Battle to send 8 children and youth to Buckhorn United Methodist Camp

For information about any of the above children and family ministry opportunities, please contact Jo Ann Hauger.
